Ans : Soil is formed by following process. (a) Rivers, streams, waterfalls etc. bring large stones from the mountains. The stones that have flown in the water are crushed by hitting the water. This small pieces form soil. (b) The heat of the day and the cold of the night cause the rocks to heat up and cool down. For many years this continues and the rock is broken into pieces. Soil is formed from these fragments. (c) When water seeps into the pores or holes of the rock, it helps to loosen the rock and soil is formed. (d) The plants growing in the place where the rock is cracked will slowly weaken the rock and the rock will start to crumble. In this way, the rock breaks down and helps to form soil. (e) When the wind blows, the surface of the rock erodes and particles like sand come out and turn into soil.
